Lok was set-up in 2004 with the intent to promote economic growth in India in a manner that was inclusive and equitable. Having worked over two decades across all regions of India, we have a deep contextual understanding of how businesses operate on the ground and nuances of impact across business models. We are focussed on driving financial inclusion, better incomes for farmers, quality healthcare for the Indian mass market, diversity, and sustainable practices to combat climate risks.

Founder Intent
Lok spends significant time prior to investment to assess the intent of the founders and their impact alignment. It is vital that we are on the same page on the respect and empathy with which to approach solving problems for all stakeholders.
Groundwork
Our time at the field helps us validate the impact generated and better understand the challenges faced. Our ability to contextualise the factors at play, and support our portfolio companies in achieving better reach is a differentiating factor.
Inclusion
Lok’s initial work was focussed on leveraging micro-finance models to achieve financial inclusion. Now, Lok has developed expertise in varied sectors whilst retaining inclusion at its core – from enabling access to credit for those at the bottom of the pyramid and unorganised MSMEs to supporting access to affordable healthcare; from bringing tech-first agricultural practices to farmers, to adoption of climate-conscious goods and services.
Climate
The socio-economically vulnerable segments of society are at most risk of adverse climate events. We seek out and back business models that enable sustainable practises that reduce emissions and help in adaptation to/mitigation of climate risks. Lok IV is SFDR Article 9 compliant and has implemented a Climate Framework for screening and portfolio management of all investments.
Gender
Be it on boards, senior management or field staff, we have found clear advantages with involving more women in our own and at the portfolio’s activities. Lok IV is a 2x qualified fund, with a 40% women IC and we are committed toward developing a portfolio of at least 30% gender focussed investments.
